Influence is the prized commodity of the early 21st century. Attempts to quantify a person's sway over the culture through social media have disrupted the trappings of celebrity, mainstream media, and the quality of art. "Where 2 Begin", the newest EP from IGShort, abandons the quintessential sound of hip-hop in pursuit of a distinctive sound.

It's a sound Short builds with distortion, deliberate misinterpretation, and layers of meaning that leaves rap's assembly-line approach in search of a unique style. To say "Where 2 Begin" borrows from previous records like 2013's "Yeezus" contradicts the timeline of Mr. Short offering his genre-bending music to companies like Def Jam, MMG, Bricksquad, etc. in hopes of collaborating with the artists he grew up on.

Regardless, this new EP explores themes of modern life in America, defined by suspicion, nihilism, delusion, and desperation. To counter these ominous themes, the sound is a defiant shot across the bow of any would-be imitator.
